View of Main Saloon with cot berths rolled out and table folded. The settee berths have lee cloths and the cot berths are full length. The saloon converts quickly to a safe and comfortable dormitory with great sea berths for four.
I have lived in North Devon for over ten years working, with my husband, on our organic farm. Being close to the land and spending those years carefully restoring rare habitats has raised my awareness of how easy it is to knock complex eco-systems out of balance. Man’s impact on his environment has grown at an alarming rate over the last century and it is these actions and their consequences that have given me the inspiration for my work.
My work expresses my fears and anxieties for my children’s futures; my frustration that industrial nations lack any sense of urgency on addressing climate change or responding to dwindling fossil fuel stores, and my despair for the millions of marginal people who will suffer the most. These strong emotions find an outlet in the physical making of my pieces and finally being able to capture them visually.
